The Virago Guide to Holiday Cocktails

hands grabbing alcohol

Our Top 5 booze recipes to get the party started

Okay, so the shit show known as 2020 has been rough, to say the least. The holidays aren’t exactly the same, but what’s important is that we make the best of it, right?

I mean, we probably won’t be seeing that one uncle that gets way too drunk, starts every sentence with, “back in my day”, and starts peeing outside even though no one is in the bathroom. So it’s not all bad! Which leads me to my next question— what are the holidays without a little Christmas spirit?! And by spirit, I mean alcohol!

Nothing like having a cocktail or two (okay, who’s really counting?) to get the party started, and these babies will do the trick!

Merry Mama Mojito

Say that 5 times fast after a couple of these. These are light, and super refreshing.
The perfect post-meal refresher.

2 fresh mint leaves
3 fresh strawberries
1oz fresh lime juice
1oz simple syrup
3oz soda water
2oz light rum
*serve with ice

Adulting Hot Cocoa

For those keeping it chill and cozy by enjoying a nice movie, this is for you. Hot cocoa with an adulting twist. Make sure not to hand over the spiked ones to the kids!

50ml Baileys Original Irish Cream
1 tsp hot chocolate powder
100ml milk (your choice on what type of milk)
A dollop of cream
Topping:
Chocolate sprinkles, chocolate brownies, chocolate fingers, chocolate sauce, really anything goes!

Don’t Get Pregnant Moscow Mule

I love crazy drink names! But for real, if you aren’t planning on making a baby then watch out— these are tasty and can be a creeper. If you make these, then bonus points if you have copper cups! Traditionally this is how mules are served.

2 ounces vodka
½ ounce fresh lime juice (about ½ medium lime)
4 ounces ginger beer
Lime wedge (coz who doesnt love a pretty drink?)
*serve with ice

Sweet Tea Sangria – National Drank

If the Philippines had a national drink it would definitely be iced tea! But the sweet AF kind though! Why, I’ll never know. But because of this, I feel like it will be a “crowd pleaser” for those who are planning to host a small gathering. This is also great if you don’t want to keep making drinks. One big batch and you’re good to go.

1 bottle of Moscato
7 ½ cups of Sweet Tea
2 cups of frozen strawberries
1 ½ cups of fresh green apples
2 sliced lemons
Fresh mint to serve
*serve with ice

Classy Bougie Ratchet – Champagne Margaritas

Visually, this drink is wow! But let me tell you, there are levels to this— hence the name. Strangely enough, I enjoy good tequila but shots aren’t always the business. Here’s a classy, Christmas-appropriate cocktail you might enjoy… until you wake up the next day.

4 tbls of sweetened lime juice. (honey or agave works great)
2oz clear tequila
2oz Triple Sec
1 Tbsp of fresh lime juice
6oz of chilled brut champagne / sparkling wine

For Sugared Rim
1 Tbsp of raw sugar
1 Tbsp of granulated sugar
Top w/ lime wedge

That wraps it up! If you use any of these recipes, please take a pic and tag us @theviragosoul!
Enjoy! (And please remember to always drink responsibly!)
