Our Story

Truth be told, we’re just 2 BFFs chopping it up. When you have someone to vibe with, and conversation can go from sleep deprivation to trauma-induced triggers and then circles back to eye-rolling at people who think they have the right to tell us how to be the “right” kind of mother— there’s gold to be mined there! And we wanna share that with moms like you.

Back in 2019, with five kids between us (2 of which were newborns), we spoke about our mutual frustration with the difficulty of postpartum (and beyond). This is considered normal. We realized that the reason we managed to power through with our sanity intact was that we had each other to turn to. All moms should be so lucky. It definitely came in handy when the whole world shut down, and we were all forced to stay home 24/7.

After a bit of digging and a load of (frequently-child-interrupted) conversations, it dawned on us that we were not alone in our views of unbalanced family-work integration and our not-so-enthusiastic take on old-fashioned domestication. We noticed that moms everywhere were powering through just like we were, but nobody wanted to talk about how we were not okay! This is not considered normal… but we thought, maybe it should be.

Krystle & Thea are the multitasking minds behind Virago, and we’re switching up the narrative.

About time, right? Let’s hang. xx
